Hi, my name is Ebony Marks, and I was recently hired by a marketing firm in Melbourne, Florida as a Social Media Specialist. That’s why I’m raising funds!
Since graduating from Oakwood University in 2018, I’ve worked as an Office Manager who also created promotional graphics for the organization. I’ve worked as a Personal Assistant who also ran an Instagram and Facebook page. Even after graduating from Southern New Hampshire University in 2021 with a Master’s Degree, I’ve been working as a Front Desk/Sales Associate, continuing to answer phones and schedule appointments.
Don’t get me wrong. In all of these roles, I’ve learned and grown a great deal. They fed my body by allowing me to pay rent and other bills! But they didn't feed my heart or my soul.
This new position is exactly what I’ve been praying for for years. It will allow me to work in Creative and Strategic Marketing, utilizing the two degrees I’ve recently earned. It is an opportunity to put my passion for marketing first. After receiving many rejection emails, hearing many recruiters say they’re “moving forward with another, more experienced candidate at this time”, even though I “showed great promise”… This was the one yes that I needed!
Unfortunately, this new opportunity doesn’t not come with relocation assistance. I currently reside in Madison, Alabama with a lease agreement that’ll continue through June of next year. My new job is requesting that I start work on August 2nd, which means I’ll be packing up my car and hitting the road on August 1st. Terminating my lease early, moving across state lines, and settling into a new apartment with such a short time frame is a daunting task. But I know that it’s possible with the love, prayers, and support of my community.
The support of my friends and family up to this point has been unimaginable. Thank you for being a shoulder to lean on when I lost my job in August 2020, only to enter into a new position in February 2021, working for $10 (now $11) an hour. This past year has been a roller coaster. Your encouraging words and financial contributions will never be forgotten.
The same is true this time around. If even 200 members of my community donate $25 in honor of my 25th birthday (7/19), we’ll surly meet our goal by August 1st. Once again, any form of contribution is greatly appreciated. And if you’re unable to donate, please share this link and whisper a prayer on my behalf. Thank you!
