Help Eathon Chaney Get Back on the Road

Greetings to you dear reader, and first let me say thank you sincerely for taking the time to read my story. Let me introduce myself.

My name is Eathon Chaney. No I didn't misspell it and no you're not reading it wrong haha.

I am a recently separated veteran of the Army National Guard and as of recently I have been trying to save up to get me and my wife our own place and be able to afford to pursue college eventually but I have hit a major roadblock.

I have been actively job seeking while pulling dual Uber and Lyft services for the past year and a half, and things were stable until March 19th; I unfortunately couldn't avoid a piece of steel debris in the roadway and my car was unfortunately damaged, the extent of which is enough that I have no other means available other than to reach out to my fellow man and ask for help.

As of right now, Uber and Lyft was my only means of providing for me and my wife, and without my car I am not able to take my wife to her medical appointments, support my mother in law (whom we live with) with my supplemental income as she has become strained due to the rising cost of living.

I am a proud difference maker, I've gone above and beyond time and time again and I wholeheartedly believe in service before self, even at great personal cost, as a driver for Uber and Lyft I've been able to be the one to step in and help enact positive change through discussion, providing security through ride support and in turn I've been rewarded with stability, but due to this incident I can no longer drive and provide that service.

Due to the nature of the incident my insurance will not cover the cost of towing and repair, and after speaking with the mechanics in my area the magic number that keeps popping up is the goal of this fundraiser ($4,000) give or take with the majority of those costs going to repair and labor for the mechanic, who is graciously offering a lowered rate, as the initial estimates were much higher from other shops local to my area.

I will continue to seek estimates in the meantime and update the goal as necessary, I used to do mechanic work myself and if I had my old shop I'd have already fixed this issue myself.

There are several smaller goals that I will update this fundraiser with as we reach them, and the first and most critical one is the tow fee, which is currently at $375 give or take daily added rates for storage of the damaged vehicle.

Due to all of these circumstances I will be pursuing a career in the Active Duty Air Force, but the enlistment process for prior service is lengthy, and not guaranteed, but it's my best shot for a better life for me and my wife, and our soon to be child.

For the immediate future however, the only thing I can do is continue to apply for remote IT jobs and do Uber, and without that critical access to those I have lost my security and ability to work.

Growing up in the rural south I've struggled my entire life, and I've managed to pull many rabbits out of the hat to save myself time and time again, but this rabbit is the hardest one I've had to grab as of yet. (Excuse my silly analogy)

Regardless, thank you for reading this far, and I hope you'll find it in your heart to help a man who just wants to keep the ability to provide for his family.
