With a very humbled heart our family is reaching out for help. Addie Mae, 10 years old, is battling a very aggressive form of Juvenile Lupus. As this is a very rare disease for a little girl, her body is not reacting to treatment. Over the last almost year and a half she has faced many challenges that have significantly affected her quality of life. Over the last 60 days, Addie has been hospitalized for almost 40 of them. With the help of Mom, Dad, Grandma, and Grandpa having to care for her around the clock as well as her little brother with virtual learning, it has built a financial burden for this family. Parents have been unable to work full time and grandparents are also facing many medical challenges that have only added stress to this situation. Addie has recently been transferred to Salt Lake City, UT (she is back in Boise, ID) to get the best care, as this was an added expense for the family. She is on 16 medications daily to try to aggressively treat the lupus as well as her newer diagnosis. She takes 2 shots (injections) of blood thinners per day as well as weekly infusions for her lupus. Recently, she has a pulmonary embolism in her lungs, and fluid surrounding her heart and lungs. Addie had an invasive procedure to drain over 500ml of fluid from her lungs last week. She now has to go in and have a kidney biopsy due to massive amounts of protein in her urine in hopes she does not have kidney disease. Addies pain is so severe and still uncontrolled that she is on ongoing morphine.
Due to the pandemic and dealing with isolation issues this has been a very trying time for her as well as our family!
