Help Ease the Burden on Mary's Family
Donation protected
I'm the middle child of Mary McComber. My mom was a strong pillar for her community, starting in government back in 2000. She quickly found her niche in helping people and has received numerous awards for her hard work, including the C.C. Ludwig Award in 2016. She served as mayor of Oak Park Heights from 2012 until her death on Monday, May 26, 2025. While she deeply cared about her community, she cared just as hard for her family. The proud wife, mother of 4, and grandmother of 12, life never slowed her down.
In March of 2025, my mom was diagnosed with Stage IV Metastatic Breast Cancer. Her first question was "how we treat it, so I don't miss my council meetings or Christmas". She never once gave up hope, even with her last breath. Even though her diagnosis was terminal, she lived each day as her last, being her sassy, spunky self on the evening before her death. My mom passed away quickly and on her own terms, which is what she wanted.
While this leaves a huge hole in our hearts, it has affected my family with a large financial strain. My stepdad had a change of insurance providers, which came with a very high out-of-pocket deductible. While the medical bills are pouring in, we were hit with another huge blow with the cost of her funeral.
Anyone who knew my mom knew that she was the first to help others out. I know she would never want to ask for help when she was in need. That's why we are asking for help for our stepdad. He's not given much time to grieve due to the extended amount of time off both he and my sister Lisa Bernhjelm had to take off to care for my mom by getting her to her appointments and treatment.
Any help will be much appreciated!!
