Help Ease the Burden of Unexpected Car Trouble

I'll just start out by saying what's on my mind: I'm freaking out. I have been off from work with no vacation or sick pay for three days running because something is wrong with my car, and my mechanic is backed up.

Driving home Monday night, my engine light came on, my car started struggling on acceleration, and I couldn't reverse. Got my car to the mechanic and have been just waiting in a pile of anxiety for them to get to it and, hopefully, fix it. They're meant to run a diagnostic check on it tomorrow.

Being the sole earner for a two-adult, one-cat household, this is a lot for me to deal with, and I have had a couple of crying fits today. I know it's not been that long since I had to ask for help when I was laid up with COVID - and people were so generous and helped so much - but any little bit anyone can give would be beyond appreciated.
