On August 31st, 2025, we had to make one of the most difficult and painful decisions of our lives. Six weeks prior, our Mavis was diagnosed with Protein-Losing Enteropathy (PLE). For those six weeks, we fought as hard as we possibly could to get her to a manageable level. This horrible disease was just too much for her tiny body no matter what we tried. Over Labor Day weekend, her condition declined suddenly and rapidly. We tried so hard, but her body was no longer able to absorb protein or calcium, and it caused her to have tremors. We had to make the decision to end her suffering and let her go at only 4 years old.
To say this experience has been traumatic for our little family would be an understatement. The house feels empty and quiet, and her little sister Mabel has been left confused without her lifelong companion. We have spent the last month grieving, but now the reality of our fight for Mavis is hitting us in the form of over $5,000 in vet bills. Having this debt hanging over us after having lost this battle and our baby is very much a salt in the wound feeling. I have included pictures of most of the invoices for her care and euthanasia.
I feel terrible for asking because I know we are all struggling these days, but I figured I would put myself out there in hopes of easing this financial burden even a tiny bit.
Thank you for your time.
I have added a link with information on PLE in dogs. I had never even heard of this condition before this.
