Help A Father Ease the Burden of a Motorcycle Crash
Donation protected
On Tuesday the 25th of June, I was taking a back road from my mom's house headed home on my motorcycle. I pulled up to a 4 way stop sign, turned my left blinker on, and stopped. I checked all three directions without seeing anyone on the road so I began slowly making my left hand turn. When I got in the middle of the intersection and looked left again to finish my turn, I saw it, a silver hood flying at me faster than I could think.
The guy in the silver van blew through the stop sign at well over 50mph. Crashing into my left side, throwing me through the air about 150 feet down the road, until I landed on the pavement. While he did not flee the scene, he also never once came to check on me as I lay screaming on the hot pavement. There was no remorse shown for his actions.
Luckily, there were two witnesses and, even after trying to claim that I ran the stop sign, the man was cited for the infractions due to the witnesses and obvious damage placement.
After making it to the trauma center of the hospital and getting a bunch of scans done, I was told my left foot was severely beat up as it got wedged between the bumper and the bike, left pinky toe was basically shredded and needed to be removed, and 3 other toes on that foot were broken. On top of that, I landed on my right side, which bruised my right arm very badly, broke 2 right ribs and fractured my right hip.
My pinky toe was amputated with surgery the very next morning. I was told I cannot walk on that foot for 3 months and because of the hip fracture I cannot walk on the other leg for up to 4 months. My ribs will take a few weeks to heal and I will be in pretty good pain until it's all over.
I have returned home as of June 30th after 5 days in the hospital. Currently wheelchair bound but mostly bed ridden.
I am out of work for about a month. Unfortunately my wife has not worked since the accident and will not be able to work for many weeks. She has to be home taking care of myself and our kids.
I'm definitely not the kind of person to ask for money unless it's dire, I'm a very proud person but at the end of the day my family, my wife and kids are what comes first and our dwindling finances are starting to get worrying with more and more bills coming up, medical equipment we had to purchase wiped our savings, and my wife's income dropping to non-existent for the time being. I know one day through the courts this man will pay for this, but in the meantime I am simply asking for a little bit to help us make it through and keep us afloat.
Anything given will be so much appreciated.
One last note, while this was a serious and probably life changing accident for me. To any other riders out there, please please always wear your helmet. Even for short trips. Without it I definitely wouldn't have made it through this.
