Help Ease Sundance's Painful Journey

Update: On the morning of Saturday June 21, Sundance suffered multiple seizures. She was unresponsive, but breathing, when my mom tried to move her to the car to take her to the hospital she lost bowel control.

A few hours later we made the decision to let her go, there wasn’t any treatment options for her, she was very sick, very weak, and clearly in a lot of pain, she’d always had health issues, and she’d come near death quite a few times, but she always bounced  back, she’d be running around as if nothing had happened, but over the years those experiences have grown more common.
Around 4:30pm on Saturday June 21st, 2025, Sundance was administered a mixture of drugs to put her to sleep and stop her heart. Her end of life treatment, paw prints, nose print, and cremation was almost $700 which was covered up front by my dad, who has paid for many of sundances hospital bills, vet visits, medications, food, etc over the years. And while he happily did it because Sundance was a very special dog to all of us, I’d love to say thank you to him by reimbursing him for all that he’s done.

We all loved her so much, she will be missed. she was always my best friend, she was always there for me, I will never forget the sound of her paws or the smell of her fur, I will forever miss her stinky breath, and her panting, the way she’d bark and howl when playing, the expressiveness of her face. No dog could ever dream of being quite like Sundance. We will always love her.

Thank you for donating, thank you for sharing, thank you for helping.

Sundance is getting old, she’s had health issues for a long time. Two years ago those health issues became too much for me to handle and too expensive for me to afford, so my parents began taking care of her. They’ve done a wonderful job. And provided her with a wonderful environment to live out her last few years, she’s had a friend (my parents dog, Lucy) to keep her company, a large beautiful backyard, and regular monthly veterinary visits.

Shes a Nova Scotia duck tolling retriever, and like many breeds, tollers are very susceptible to hip issues, and Sundance is no exception. Her back legs give out every couple of steps on bad days. She sometimes wakes my parents with crying.

It’s looking like she’s at the end of her days, I don’t want her to live in pain anymore but I would love to be able to take her to diagnostic hospital and see if there is anything that wasn’t noticed, or tried etc by her regular vet that can be done to improve her quality of life and extend her life for another year or two.

But as we all know, vet bills are expensive, even the process of “putting her down” isn’t cheap. So I’m asking yall, if you can, please help, donate, or share.

Sundance is the sweetest, kindest, most well behaved, most loving, calming, dog there has ever been, she was always there for me for so many years, and was such a wonderful companion, i will miss her so much, but I don’t want to send her off without feeling like we’ve done everything we could.

thank you for your support
