*UPDATE* “Id like to thank everyone for their love and support over the last 4 months. Jamie and I have rented a house in Bala Ont for the next 6 months thanks to all of our friends financial support either through the go fund me, e-transfers, or bake sale. Without all the beautiful ppl in our life’s this wouldn’t have been possible. I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Please keep up with all the prayers for us as we need all the help we can get.
Sincerely
Rich ❤️”
It saddens us to say that we are raising money for my step-mom, Jamie Shand, who has recently been diagnosed with stage 4 esophagus cancer. After fighting for months advocating for her health in a nightmare situation and almost losing hope in Manitouwadge, my dad, Richard Bynoe put Jamie in the car and drove all the way to Barrie, 12 hours straight! After waiting for hours at RVH they unfortunately received no help and were told to go home and deal with the pain.
They fortunately did not give up there! They kept driving further, another 2 and a half hours to Toronto where FINALLY the professionals at Toronto General Hospital were able to get to the bottom of things.
Thanks to the team at Toronto General, and Princess Margaret Hospital she is finally able to get the help and medications she needs.
Jamie has been retired for a few years, which means dad has been the main income for them. Due to this diagnosis, Dad (Richard) has had to be her caregiver and nurse around the clock, 24/7. This has caused a tremendous financial strain on them. They are currently staying close to Toronto, where they can easily get the medical attention Jamie’s needs at Toronto General and Princess Margaret Hospital. Staying outside of the city has not only been a struggle financially but also mentally. Having their home, and all of their belongings being 14 hours away from them has been difficult. Thankfully they have a place to stay in order to be able to receive the care Jamie needs daily. Jamie will continue to do radiation, chemotherapy, and follow her strict med routine for the next few months.. possibly a year, with Richard (dad) as her main caregiver.
We’re raising funds to help with medical expenses, travel costs, and living support. Any donation, big or small, makes a huge difference to our family and allows Jamie to focus on healing and spending time with her kids and grandbabies.
If you’re unable to donate, we would greatly appreciate it if you shared this gofundme page with others. The medications, travel, and stay are all costly and I’m sure you can imagine have started to add up. We are hoping to try to alleviate some of the financial burden they are experiencing. My dad and Jamie are not ones to ask for help — even if they need it!!! So we are asking for them.
If you prefer to directly donate, contact me or Richard directly and we will provide the information for Jamie or Richard’s direct deposit.
Thank you so much in advance, we as a family truly appreciate it and cannot express how much the support we have received means to all of us.
It’s hard to put into words how much we love Mom/Jamie and what this means to her and our family. Thank you so much for your love, thoughts, well-wishes, kindness and generosity during this incredibly difficult time. Words truly cannot describe how much it all means.
