Help ease medical bills for the Chamberland's

Donation protected
September 17th Scott Chamberland suffered a significant stroke while doing yard work. Luckily, the family was nearby and was quick-acting, allowing him to receive timely medical care. Scott was transported to Plainfield Backus where he received stabilizing treatment while they assessed his faculties. Once his status was evaluated, they transported him to the Norwich Backus. After further testing, the hospital felt he should be moved to a more equipped stroke unit, the Hartford Hospital Neuro ICU.

For days to follow, Scott had to remain lying down to allow the Doctors to control his blood pressure and to not cause further clots from breaking loose. After several days of blood thinners and other medications, he was moved to a step-down unit where he could sit up and move around supervised. Scott remained in this unit for several days on blood thinners until the dose was too strong and caused the clot to hemorrhage. Once he was stabilized and removed from the high-dose blood thinners, he had repeat scans to confirm the bleeding had subsided. Scott was released from Hartford Hospital on September 23rd, awaiting surgery.

Upon further testing, the doctors concluded the clot broke off from his carotid artery, which is 80% blocked. The following action would be to surgically remove all buildup and plaque so that the artery could return to full function. Due to the bleeding, the surgery had to be pushed out several weeks until the bleeding stopped. During these three weeks, Scott was unable to work and had high restrictions on movement, including housework or yardwork and driving only within a 5-mile radius.

Scott's surgery is scheduled for October 20th; he will remain out of work for another month, depending on how the surgery goes.

During the last month and the month to come, Sharon has been out of work intermittently caring for Scott and taking him to his appointments. While both have and will be out of work for several more weeks, the medical bills are beginning to arrive. They are starting to feel financial pressure from medical bills, household expenses, and everyday items. With winter coming and the high cost of oil along with the medical bills, we are posting this in hopes of helping to alleviate their financial pressures.

Friends and family have reached out to us regarding helping, and many have already assisted us/them in many ways. We want to take this time to thank them and also provide an avenue for those who expressed an interest in helping.

We want to thank you for taking the time to review this story and to consider donating to help Scott and Sharon. This journey has been challenging, and it is just beginning.
