Help Ease Casey's Burden After Pepper's Loss
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Sierra and my dear friend Casey is in need of support after unexpectedly losing her sweet angel kitty, Pepper.
Casey had been fostering 4-year-old Pepper from an incredible rescue agency, MeowSquad NYC, for about 3 months. During this time, she had fallen head over heels in love with little Pep' and her long meows and aggressively affectionate way of begging for chin scratches. Casey was on the Foster-to-adopt path, hoping to officially adopt Pepper within the next few weeks.
Unfortunately, Pepper suddenly lost her appetite this past weekend, and upon taking her to the vet, it was discovered that she was severely anemic, and had multiple masses on her liver, some of which were bleeding and causing drastic blood loss. Due to the nature of the masses, doctors strongly suspected cancer. Pepper underwent an emergency blood transfusion to keep her afloat, and then abdominal surgery to remove the masses and stop the bleeding.
Casey, the amazing folks at MeowSquad, and the doctors & surgeons on her case were all hopeful that Pepper would pull through. Despite everyone’s best efforts, Pepper did not fully recover from anesthesia. Another emergency blood transfusion was able to bring back her heartbeat and breath, but brain function never returned. Pepper held on for as long as it took Casey to frantically drive to the hospital, and within just a few minutes of Casey talking to her on the operating table and gently petting her head, Pepper finally let go and passed onto the other side.
Before being rescued by the loving volunteers at MeowSquad, Pepper was living a difficult life on the streets; weathering unimaginable hardships and neglect, even leading to the necessary removal of all of her teeth. Despite these obstacles, Pepper had proven to be an incredibly strong, resilient and determined little girl. While at first very timid and afraid, under MeowSquad’s (and then Casey's) care, she had truly transformed against all odds into an affectionate, silly and curious cat. Whether at MeowSquad or in Casey’s home with her friends and family, Pepper was truly a fan favorite.
As you can imagine, Casey is devastated by this news. She and Pepper had built a beautiful bond, and she was so excited to start the foster-to-adopt process and give Pepper a loving forever home.
On top of the unimaginable grief of losing a young & vibrant new feline family member in such a sudden and tragic way, Casey and the folks at MeowSquad are now also left with the daunting task of paying major medical expenses that accumulated while trying so desperately to save Pepper’s life.
The expenses are as follows:
First emergency room visit: $800
Second emergency room visit/operating room fees: $900
Multiple blood tests, ultrasounds, anesthesia, injections & medications: $1,300
Blood transfusions, IVC placement & fluids: $700
Nursing & Hospital care: $2,500
Liver Lobectomy: $1,300
TOTAL: $7,500
Please, if you are able, help us give Casey the peace of mind to grieve Pepper’s loss without having to bear the financial burden. Any amount helps. Thank you Thank you Thank you!!!
