Help Eartha get her tissue expander exchange surgery

My name is Eartha in April I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. I had a double mastectomy in May with stage one of the reconstruction… tissue expanders… Let me tell you, they are not fun! The second stage, when the expanders get switched out for the implants and I get my real fake boobs, is scheduled for August 27th.

However, we all know that Cancer sucks, but you know what else sucks!?!? The cost of healthcare in the US and the greediness of insurance companies.

I was told by my insurance that I have to pay my complete out of pocket which is $6000 for them to cover the expander/implant exchange surgery and my PT because insurance reset July 1st. I was told it’s a completely different surgery, when it’s actually the second stage of the reconstruction.

I am an RN who spends her time at work taking care of people and when not at work I’m taking care of my 6 year old daughter with my husband Mike, who has had, and continues to have his own battles with cancer. I am horrible at asking for help for myself when I’m in need. This is very hard for me to do, and after speaking to my insurance company again today, I am taking the advice of many friends who have told me to start a GoFundMe to help cover some expenses.
