Help Earl Gray with his life saving surgery

Hello everyone, my name is Nicole and I’m eternally grateful that you’re visiting our page. Those who know me know just how much I love my fur babies, especially Earl Gray. He’s the cutest little cat with no tail and the sweetest heart. He’s never met a stranger in his life. I adopted him about 3 years ago from a shelter, and he’s about 4 years old right now and very healthy aside from some recent events. You can learn much more about him and his adopted sister Cocoa Puff on their instagram, @earl.and.the.puff

My best buddy Earl Gray and I have gone through so much in the last week. On Monday, 5/2 I noticed he wasn’t himself and took him to the emergency vet at the direction of our vet. He was diagnosed with a urinary obstruction, which is an emergency for a cat, as they can die within 24 hours if not treated. He underwent a procedure to unblock him and flush out his system from the crystals that cause the condition, then stayed in the hospital until Wednesday for monitoring with a catheter. I brought him home Wednesday morning and have been giving him all medications that the vet recommended and monitoring constantly.

Unfortunately, on Friday 5/6 Earl wasn’t himself again. I took him back to the emergency vet where they confirmed that he had re-blocked, which unfortunately happens in about 10% of cats within the first week after this procedure, since the crystals causing the issue take weeks to dissolve on their special diet. I am just devastated and can’t fathom why this would happen twice to my baby.

When this happens more than once, there is a procedure known as a PU surgery that can widen the urethral opening to prevent future instances of dangerous obstructions. I will stop at nothing to make sure Earl never needs to go through this pain and suffering again.

So far for Earl Gray’s care, I have paid about $7,000 to MedVet (exams, medications, procedures to unblock, nights in the ICU with monitoring, etc). My vet has quoted me that the PU surgery and subsequent care will require another $6,000. While I have pet insurance for Earl, the yearly max is $7,000 - and he can’t wait until next year for the PU surgery. His life depends on getting it ASAP.

If any funds raised are left over after paying Earl’s vet bills, I will donate it in his name to the ASPCA to help other sweet animals in need.

I cannot even begin to describe how much I would appreciate any amount of financial support you can share. As a full time therapist who is single, these expenses are far beyond my ability on my own. If you’ve ever loved an animal as I have, as a part of your family, and a part of your heart - I humbly ask for your help to save my best friend.

Forever grateful,
Nicole
