Hi, I'm Eamon Doyle. I was born in San Francisco in 1985 and have lived and worked full-time in the Haight since 2018.
On February 9, 2025, my parents, Clare and Timothy Doyle, were taken to the ER about eight hours apart for infections that rendered them unable to walk or stand. It was immediately evident that neither of them could continue to live independently. After nine days in the hospital, they were transferred to post-acute rehab, where they remained for about ten weeks while some relatives and I took on the immense challenges of cleaning out their Fairfield home of more than twenty-five years and securing them a companion suite at an assisted-living facility in Vacaville, the monthly cost of which is approximately equal to their monthly retirement income. Upon moving into the facility, they were put in hospice care, which they remain in to this day. In March my roommates of three years decided to move out of our apartment and in with their respective partners, so I had to scramble to find a new home. I wound up having to pay for two moving crews in a two-day span: one for myself and one for my folks.
Amid all this tumult, I have continued to work at least forty hours a week.
When my parents' medical crisis began, I was fortunate enough to have an excellent credit score and an inexpensive lifestyle, but after nearly nine months of doctors' bills, moving expenses, paratransit van rentals, unexpected rent increases, and constant travel between San Francisco and Solano County, the proverbial wolf is at the door. I've maxed out my credit cards and taken out four loans, and my credit score has plunged so low that Credit Karma is out of options for me. So in the spirit of the Haight's admirably longstanding culture of sharing, I am asking my community for help.
My caregiver debt stands at roughly $29,000. I don't expect to raise that much via GoFundMe, but any dent in the debt would mean the world to me.
Thank you for reading.
