Help Dylan Secure Housing and Start College

Dear brothers,

as a follow-up to the letter I sent out a few days ago, here is the opportunity to provide financial support to Dylan, who is currently homeless and needing money for a place to live, while he awaits to register for full time college at Santa Rosa JC.

Thank you so much for your willingness to make a difference in his life with practical support!

Below is the letter that describes his circumstances.
I am reaching out to any of you who may feel called to lend some financial or other support to a man I am working with pro bono as a therapist/life coach. He has given his permission for me to communicate about him.

His name is Dylan and he is 32 years old, currently homeless for the past week and depressed. He had been living in a house with some acquaintances but had to leave when the couple had a baby on the way. He is clean and sober except for some occasional pot use. He just started working for UPS doing deliveries, which is a job he’s done before and is quite competent at. The job is seasonal so he will need to find other work in January, probably more gig/app delivery work.

His story is pretty sad, he has been struggling to get by for a long time. His mother was a drug addict and abandoned the family when he was quite young. His father (who has a degree in particle physics but is likely on the Autism spectrum) kicked him out of his home a few years ago. Neither parent was engaged with him in the way of showing real love or guidance. He doesn’t have other family to turn to, except his sister who is also fragile and not able to help him.

Anyway, Dylan is quite smart and gifted with math, language and music but is also neuro-divergent. He is likely somewhat on the autism spectrum, in that he experiences intense social anxiety and awkwardness. He wants to help himself but often gets in his own way with over-thinking and analyzing everything. He appears a more immature kind of man than his age who truly needs a lot of specific guidance, which he never really got until now.

He has already registered to resume classwork at Santa Rosa J.C. and will hopefully be receiving some kind of assistance/scholarship in the next semester.

I have been coaching him on and off for a few months but then have been assisting Dylan on almost daily basis since he became homeless. He got himself to a shelter which was severely overcrowded and wasn’t able to sleep there, so he started spiraling negatively while trying to live in his car. I have chosen to help him pay for cheap motel rooms this past week, while helping him brainstorm and look for other options.

I believe Dylan is a great candidate for support from our tribe, given that he has a good and loving heart and mind, and really wants to help himself grow, thrive and contribute in a meaningful way.

Currently Dylan is looking for temporary housing but doesn’t have the money to pay for the month lease and deposit. I want to help him raise sufficient funds to get him a place to stay for at least this next month, while he starts making some money and gets engaged with college. I would also welcome any man stepping up to connect with him for emotional/practical support so that he isn’t isolated.

Thank you!
Sergio
