Our family is heartbroken after Hurricane Melissa devastated the home that Dwayne grew up in. The storm ripped off most of the roof, flooded the floors, and destroyed nearly everything inside.

Dwayne’s mother, two sisters (young twenties), and toddler niece — all girls — have lost their home, their belongings, and their sense of safety. They are now without shelter, food, or the means to rebuild. This home has always been their safe haven, and now it’s unlivable.

We’re raising $20,000 to help Dwayne’s family rebuild and recover. Funds will go directly toward:

• Rebuilding the roof, floors, and walls damaged by flooding

• Replacing essential furniture and beds

• Providing food and temporary shelter while repairs are made

We’re contributing as much as we can, but this disaster is far beyond what our family can handle alone. Dwayne hasn’t been able to visit Jamaica since coming to the U.S. in 2015 on a scholarship for basketball, but his heart has always remained in Jamaica with his family. He feels a deep responsibility to help his mother, sisters, and young niece find stability again — and we’re asking for your help to make that possible.

For anyone who personally knows Dwayne, they know his kind-hearted spirit and his eagerness to help anyone who needs it. Dwayne is always the first one to volunteer when someone needs help. Whether it's building something or helping with whatever may be needed, time and time again, he has shown up for his friends (who have turned to family since being in the States), neighbors, and community.

Your donation will help ensure that Dwayne’s family — especially his toddler niece, who deserves a safe place to grow up — has food, shelter, and the chance to rebuild their lives.

This crowdfunding post for Dwayne's family is being posted and handled by Peyton Hart, Dwayne's wife of five years. I want to take some of the heavy burden off of Dwayne so he is able to focus at his job without the constant worry for his family back in Jamaica. While this part of his family's home was mostly destroyed, on the northwest side of the Island, Dwayne hasn't been able to reach his immediate family there due to no power/cell service and due to it being the hardest hit. So we are unsure of their current state. Please keep Jamaica as a whole in your thoughts and prayers as they go through this difficult time.

While Dwayne, Peyton and their two children live in Arkansas, these funds are for Dwayne's family back in Jamaica. Dwayne and Peyton are the ones responsible for finding labor, materials, etc to help rebuild. We are also having to find ways to get food to since so much there is currently destroyed.
