I'm Lucy Hall, a nurse, nursing professor, and mother to five adult children who make me proud. In 2024 I wanted to get more involved in my church, so signed up for the Women's Book Club, and became friends with our wonderful leader, Erin Vaughn. Through the weeks she began to share about her husband's health problems during our prayer time. I wanted to help them by creating a fundraising page because I believe it's my duty to help others in need. Erin and Dwayne graciously agreed to share their story, as told by Erin:
December 26, 2025
My husband is at risk of losing his eyesight without a cornea transplant—and time is critical. We need help to make this life-changing surgery possible.
My husband, Dwayne Vaughn, is a father, grandfather, son, son in law and friend, and the primary financial support for our family. He has been diagnosed with Fuchs’ Dystrophy, a progressive eye disease that causes severe pain and worsening vision loss. His doctors have been clear that without a cornea transplant, his eyesight will continue to deteriorate, putting his independence and ability to work at serious risk.
As his vision has declined, everyday life has become increasingly difficult. He is no longer able to drive at night, and when the sun is rising or setting, his vision is severely impaired and the sunlight is extremely painful. On days when the pain is intense, even routine tasks become overwhelming. He works in IT, a field that depends heavily on clear vision, focus, and long hours at a screen, making this condition especially challenging both physically and emotionally. If he does not have the surgery Dwayne will lose his vision this year.
Dwayne is an avid biker, hiker and his favorite hobby is model railroading. We also have grandchildren that are our pride and joy.
Although we have health insurance, we are facing a high deductible that we have to meet and significant out-of-pocket medical costs. He will also need to take short-term disability during surgery and recovery, resulting in lost income at a time when our financial stability matters most.
Asking for help is not easy, but we cannot do this alone. We live paycheck to paycheck and do not have savings to absorb the medical costs and lost income this surgery requires. Any donation—no matter the size—will help cover medical expenses and essential living costs during his recovery. If you are unable to give, sharing this page or keeping our family in your thoughts and prayers would mean so much.
Thank you for standing with us during this urgent and vulnerable time. Your generosity gives us hope and helps protect my husband’s sight and our family’s future.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Erin Vaughn
