This is Dwayne Jessup and his beloved dog, Daisy. On Wednesday, January 7th, Daisy and one of their other dogs got into a fight. Dwayne, reacting on instinct, attempted to separate the two. While the other dog continued to attack Daisy, Dwayne was caught up in the action and injured. Dwayne was taken to NCBH for a severe hand injury. Dwayne was able to come home Friday evening. The extent of his injuries and the hand's prognosis are unknown at this time but he will be out of work for an extended period, as there will be several follow up appointments and possible surgeries and a very long recovery.
Daisy was rushed to her vet. She is being kept through the weekend to monitor her wounds and health but the vet has high hopes that she will heal fine. She had a laceration to her ear, which was stapled together. She also had a chest wound that was stapled. There were several other smaller injuries that are typical in a dog fight. The chest wound is the main concern from the vet at this time. When Daisy was checked on Thursday morning, she was standing and wagging her tail, but wasn't eating her breakfast and at that point unable to have pain medications. The vet was going to continue to encourage eating so she could get the relief she needed. That was the last update.
Dwayne was a firefighter at Central Surry Volunteer Fire Department in Dobson for several years. He is currently employed by the City of Mount Airy and Surry County. Anyone that has known Dwayne for any amount of time knows he is always smiling no matter what he is doing. Dwayne is kind, generous, and always willing to help anyone in need. Daisy is his world. You rarely see one without the other. Daisy loves to ride in the truck anywhere he goes.
Any help towards current and future medical bills for both Dwayne and Daisy would be greatly appreciated in this time of need. Let's join together as a community to help someone who is always helping his community no questions asked.
