To never correct a lie, is to let it become the twisted truth for others when your abuser is more charming than you are. I stand with Chelsea M. Hernandez. When we were stationed at Gordon, W01 David Hernandez made sure her friends and those she associated with were wives of his subordinates. He tried to paint Chelsea as crazy and dramatic and it worked with many. He isolated her and tried to make her stay away from people like Eric Sean and I who he had no power over. We never believed his words and looked at his actions which told us all we needed to know. I remember all the nights she took shelter at my home to escape from the danger she faced at home. I am happy that she escaped with her life and her children are okay.
Now that she has come out in public about the abuse that she suffered at the hands of her spouse, W01 David Hernandez, has made sure to make her suffer financially. Last month, he cut off the water and garbage/sewage and made sure the children had no food to eat. Because of this, she was granted a TPO which forced him to pay. Chelsea also has a pre-existing condition (lupus) and speaking out is potentially risking her to lose health care in divorce. This would be a death sentence for her.
Without the GoFundMe being successful, Chelsea will be representing herself as she has no funds to afford an attorney. Divorce court date is the end of October. Without funds, she will have to represent herself in the divorce proceedings and her family has abandoned her due to appearances. She has no one. But sometimes doing the right thing for your children means standing on your own. Help us let her know that we stand with Chelsea. Domestic violence is never okay and we need to stop covering for men in positions of power. She needs help now. Any amount of money will help her as legal fees are expensive. One attorney charged $5K just to take the case for her. The $10K would be for legal fees and if her spouse is able to kick her off his insurance during divorce proceedings, she would be able to afford her medication. Please share this far and wide.
