Eighteen years ago, my brother was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy. With the help of medication, he was able to continue living life and has always worked hard to provide for his family. He is an amazing husband and father who has always put his family first. If his kids had a ball game, he was there. He has always been the kind of dad who showed up and the kind of husband his family could count on. Back in October, he got very sick, and since then he has been in and out of the hospital with illness and complications. He has now been in the hospital for nearly two months waiting for a heart transplant. Doctors first placed an Impella to help support his heart, but it wasn’t enough to keep him stable while waiting for a donor heart. Today, he is at Emory Hospital undergoing open-heart surgery to receive an LVAD. The hope is that the LVAD will allow him to recover enough to finally come home and be with his family while he waits for the life-saving heart transplant he desperately needs. This has been incredibly hard on all of us, but especially on his wife and children. Along with everything they’ve been through emotionally, this has also created a huge financial burden. My brother has always worked hard to take care of his family, and I know not being able to do that right now is one of the hardest things for him. I’m starting this fundraiser to help take some of that financial stress off of them so they can focus on what matters most right now—his recovery and spending time together as a family.
