Help Dustin Sutherland’s Family

My name is Carleigh Sutherland. I’ve been married to my amazing husband, Dustin, for 5 years as of December 19, 2020!

On April 20, 2021, Dustin drove home from work as he always does, stopping on the way to get corn for our pig, Maple. He didn’t feel well and I knew that something was wrong when he walked in the door. He became unresponsive to verbal and tactile cues and was confused, unable to identify where we were and what was happening. I brought him to Altus ER in Lumberton and so began a five day, 3 hospital tour of Southeast Texas. We joke that it was the most expensive “vacation” we’ve ever had.

Dustin was diagnosed with a benign (thank you Lord!!) pituitary adenoma. He (thank you again Jesus) had a job, health insurance, and elected for short and long term disability (thank you Lord!!!) I work as a home health OT in the area as well. Even with me continuing to work and with Dustin’s insurance, the medical bills are insanely high. I’ve started a spreadsheet to keep track since each doctor bills their in hospital care individually and the ambulance copay($1,305.81), blood work ($1,574.91 for two days), and doctors visits with imaging are adding up. I don’t know how people without insurance are able to manage.

Any amount at all helps and goes directly to his medical care and surgery, which was completed on Monday, June 21, 2021 with a four day hospital stay (haven’t seen the bills for this yet and am currently pretending that they don’t exist.) We appreciate any prayers and well wishes as well.
