Help Dustin! Injured by hit and run driver

Hello My name is Kim Black and I'm starting this GoFund page for my boyfriend Dustin Deason who was seriously injured by hit and run driver last Tuesday. His left foot was almost completely severed from his ankle. Fortunately a good Samaritan found him and got him help quickly so the doctors were able to reattach his foot. But unfortunately now 7 days later the doctors have determined that his foot most likely will not be salvageable. Several of his toes are already dead. Most all of the bones in his foot were crushed in the accident and there was very little skin left for the doctors to work with. So to continue trying to save his foot, the doctors told us yesterday, would mean many more surgeries over the next couple years plus multiple painful skin graphs that which with a high probability of infection. And even with all that his foot will never be right or work properly again and most likely end having to  amputate anyways in the future. So with that grim prognosis Dustin has made the difficult and emotional decision to save himself from all that and have his leg amputated at the calf now so he can get back to living sooner. The surgery is scheduled for tomorrow Wednesday the 21st. And now the reality of the upcoming financial difficulties for us is setting in.  He's insured through medi-cal and we are grateful for that, but it won't be enough. He has a long road ahead of him before he will be walking again and it will be tougher with only one income now. It's going to be even more difficult with just my income now which was already strained with Covid-19. But we will make it work. We are survivors. It's extremely frustrating though knowing that a lot of these financial burdens could of been avoided if the driver had just done the right thing and stopped!!! Instead he chose to go away and leave the scene for Dustin to fend for himself. When my family decided to tell his story on social media in hopes of finding anyone that might have witnessed the accident or know anything about the driver, I was amazed at the outpouring of well wishes from our friends and family but also the amount of compassion from total strangers. Thank you! Many of you asked if I had set up a GoFundMe account so they could help so that is what I did. Thank you everybody for the suggestion. I can't tell you enough how much Dustin and I appreciate everybody's prayers and support. Destin is an amazing and generous human being. Everyone that knows him knows he's the first person willing to help somebody out. He will get through this and come out stronger! He is a badass! I have no doubt that he will be back to saving people's days and being the guy in the middle of the mosh pit in record time with a little bit of help. Thank you and much love to everyone! ❤️
