It’s been a long and hard couple of months. Ryan began declining before hospitalization and missed a lot of work. I was able to work and cover our bills then, and through his first hospitalization.

With Ryan’s progressing illness, I used all my savings and PTO.

When it became clear that these were the last days with him, there were several reasons I couldn’t work: I didn’t want to miss the time with him, there were stacks of paperwork related to his care that had to be filled out immediately, and I didn’t have the emotional or physical stamina.
