Help Ducky Fight a Case of the Lumps
Donation protected
Ducky Jefferson is probably around 12 years old. No one knows exactly because she was found roaming the streets of San Jose California at roughly 6 months of age. She can neither confirm nor deny that she was the leader of both the Norteños and Sureños gangs, forced to leave under the darkness of night to pursue her Los Angeles dream: to be a baked potato in the sun. Others claim she is an alien because of her strange noises, known as gurggles, snarfles, and gags. It is these noises that led to how she got her name, because as a young puppy she had a very goose-like quality. As a result, we called her Duck Duck Goose, and it turned into Ducky. She acquired her Jefferson surname because she is a working-class girl who moved on up to an LA east side loft in the sky (well, 12 feet up).
I've been fortunate that Ducky has been relatively healthy with no significant issues all these years. Unfortunately, all three of my work fields have declined significantly in the last few years. Like many Angelinos, I'm still recovering from the disaster that was 2024. I've been needing to clean Ducky's teeth, but much more concerning is the 3 growing masses on her chest. I've been putting it off (and honestly, a bunch of other checkups), but because her lumps have been growing more significantly in the last couple of months, it's been deemed wise time to deal with them before they get too big. Just made sense to bundle the surgery and cleaning at the same time since she needs to be put under for both.
The good news thus far is that her heart echocardiogram and bloodwork came back with good results! Her teeth look fairly good, and nothing is loose as far as they can tell, so extractions seem limited, if any. But she definitely needs a good deep clean. But it really is the lumps we are concerned about. Initial aspiration tests seem non-cancerous, but there is some concern with their continuing growth that it could impact breathing and mobility; she's already showing some discomfort, and it's easier to remove them now than later.
Anything would be appreciated! I'm hoping we can at least reach couple thou, as just pre-surgery test stuff has been costly. I have never made something like this before. I won't know the full charge of until it's done (it depends on the length of operation), but if the funds raised are beyond what I need, I will donate to my friend Ange Cox's general fund for cats at the Brewery Artist loft. Usually, it's to help strays that seek refuge here and have some ailment. Please feel free to make your donation anonymous.
UPDATE:
They removed two upper molars on her left side. One was cracked, and one was developing an abscess. The rest of her teeth are in pretty good shape and just got a deep cleaning. The doctor said she is lucky to have good genes, but I like to think I did a decent job taking care of them as well ↔️.
They also removed her tumor masses with little issue. The big one we were most worried about came out well; it was starting to get in between muscle fibers, so it was good to get it out when we did. Ducky is now recovering. She's been groaning quite a lot, but overall is doing well. Thank you to everyone who helped chip away at this; it means a lot to me and Alice.
