Duane Almas, my brother, was living a life full of adventure and purpose as an arborist, spending his days high up in the trees and close to nature. Everything changed overnight when he was suddenly paralyzed from the neck down due to an infection at the base of his skull. Although doctors were able to clean out the infection, Duane remains paralyzed and now faces a long and uncertain road to recovery through therapy and rehabilitation.

This has been a devastating blow for Duane, who now feels hopeless and like a burden to his family and everyone around him. He is confined to a care facility bed, unable to touch a tree or experience the outdoors he loves so much. His only means of communication is his voice, but his spirit remains strong and he dreams of regaining his mobility and independence.

The financial burden of medical bills, therapy, and the specialized equipment Duane needs is overwhelming. Without support from the community, he will have to remain in the care center until we can raise enough to purchase a mobility chair and a chair lift van.
