On May 14, 2025, my grandparents were in a tragic head-on collision car accident caused by a wrong-way driver. Duane, or better known as Papa to me, sustained multiple injuries including 7 broken ribs, a distal break in his elbow, a fractured patella, a fractured sternum, a fractured right hip, and a shattered ankle. Not to mention, his mental and emotional state are severely beaten as he mourns the loss of my grandmother. He has already undergone 2 surgeries and is currently in the hospital recovering and awaiting more surgeries for his ankle and knee. After his surgeries, he will need extensive rehab to get his mobility back. His ultimate goal would be to come back to his home; however, at this time we are completely unaware of what modifications will be needed to help him get back to living an independent lifestyle.
