Hi, my name is Jason Richardson and I'm fundraising for my friend Drew Hegeman.
Drew was born and raised in Little Valley, New York by two motorcycle enthusiasts. Like most of us, he grew up riding on the back of his dad’s Harley-Davidson as much as possible. From an extremely young age you could start to see his passion brewing for two wheels.
After graduating college, Drew ventured off into the motorcycle world and through the years has worked at San Diego Harley-Davidson in California, Greenville Harley-Davidson in South Carolina and Harv’s Harley-Davidson in Macedon, NY. After 14 years in the industry a life long dream started to come to fruition, to ride across the United States. He started his venture at the end of August last year.
On September 21, 2020, Drew went from living the dream to holding on to his life. He was involved in a motorcycle accident, which after a long struggle left him a paraplegic. After spending over three weeks at the University of New Mexico at Albuquerque and over three months at Craig Hospital in Englewood, CO, Drew is back at home in Greenville, SC and is surrounded by love and positivity from his family and friends. The Spinal Cord Injury has brought on many challenges, Drew says all the time, “not walking is the easy part about this injury.” The recovery is going to be a life long process.
Drew appreciates all contributions as he battles with the new transition from two wheels to four. The donations will be used to get more adaptive equipment in his life and as well as paying down medical debt. Drew is in need of much equipment, ranging from a standing frame, to help with blood flow and bone strength, all the way to an accessible vehicle so he can get to doctors appointments and therapy.
Living now as a T6 complete paraplegic, the strength and encouragement of his peers keeps him striving further and working harder every single day. He hopes to eventually finish his cross-country journey, whether it has to be on two wheels or three.
Any amount is helpful, and words of encouragement are greatly appreciated. If you'd prefer to donate directly, you can send via Venmo @DrewH6813.
Thanks for reading,
Jason
