My dad, Drew Hayes, broke his wrist yesterday while cutting down a tree for someone in need. Tree work has been his profession for years and he’s known around northern California as a hardworking, kind man who always lends a hand. Whether it’s helping a neighbor, rescuing an animal, or offering food and supplies to someone homeless, Drew has always put others first.

Now, he needs our help.

Drew’s wrist injury has left him unable to work for a while. Although he does have health insurance to help with medical costs, recovery will still take time and during that time, his animal family still needs care.

On his small homestead, Drew looks after:

Four sheep

Thirteen Muscovy ducks

His Mustang horse, Kola (“friend” in Lakota)

Mama Goat and a bottle baby goat, Pippi

Two loyal dogs

These animals are his family — they bring him purpose, companionship, and self-sustainability.

Right now, Drew urgently needs:

$400/month for hay to feed his animals through the winter

$1,800 for fencing materials to expand their pasture and keep them safe

Additional funds for building shelter for his horse and for paid labor help while he heals

The local community checks in on him often, but he’s mostly on his own caring for the animals he loves. Even small donations will help give him peace of mind and keep his herd fed and warm while he recovers.
