Help “Blaze” in his last years

Donation protected

Meet “Blaze” (came to us without a name) he is a 30 y/o Appaloosa gelding who was rescued in the evacuation ahead of the fires near Colton, Oregon

My name is Aaron. Some friends and I from SaintHelens, Oregon were volunteering our time and trailers transporting horses to evacuation sites away from the unprecedented fires here in western Oregon.
When we got the message that a trailer was needed for transport we were told we had 30 mins or they would have to put him down. So we moved to do the transport and found him a barn here in Columbia County where he could be housed safely away from other horses and away from the fires

The next day when we made contact with the lady who did the handoff we were told that they couldn’t care for him any longer and they’d come get him and put him down.

Blaze doesn’t have much longer to live as 30 is VERY OLD for a horse but he’s still got life and fire in him.  But he needs our and your help! His stable was donated short term but long term it will have a real cost and he’ll need feed, a vet check, and shots as we don’t have any records. But we decided we need to do what we can and we can’t do it alone!!!

I will be setting up a Facebook group where we will share regular videos and pictures.

Any extra funds will be used for other horse rescues or donated to charities.

UPDATE: After a preliminary check by a volunteer vet tech Blaze has almost no teeth. And will not be able to be simply “put out to pasture” because he will need a special senior diet because his ability to process hay and grass could cause a choking hazard. She has recommended a full write-up by a certified vet. This all comes with additional costs. On a good note I’ve been checking his temperament with other horses. He has done very well so far in showing signs that he will be able to be housed with other horses. He’s been out with my gelding and an ornery mare and he fell right into the pecking order and didn’t try to challenge anyone.
