Hello, my name is Dream Smith, and I need urgent help to walk again. Four months ago, I suffered a traumatic leg injury that completely changed my life. I fractured my tibia and tore my ACL - both requiring surgery. I had my first surgery to repair the fracture with permanent rods and screws. But I was told immediately that I would also need ACL reconstructive surgery, or else I could become permanently disabled.

Since then, I've been in a painful fight - not just to heal - but to be heard. After months of follow-up appointments, therapy, and advocating with my doctors and insurance company, I was just informed that my insurance has denied my second surgery.

Without this critical ACL surgery:

• I cannot straighten my leg

• I cannot walk or bear weight

• I have lost mobility, independence, and muscle function

• I am at serious risk of permanent disability

I currently rely on a walker, which also limits my ability to work, and have no way to afford this surgery without help. I've lost income from multiple jobs and had to pause the community literacy programs I run through my nonprofit, Book Nation of Dreamers.

I'm used to being the one helping others — now I need help myself. I'm not giving up. I believe in healing and in the power of community. I've served mine through children's programs, youth festivals, and literacy pop-ups - and now I'm asking for that same community spirit in return.

Every dollar, every share, every prayer — helps me get closer to walking again, working again, and rebuilding the life and purpose I've worked so hard for.
