Drake has always been more than a dog—he’s been a loyal partner, a steady presence in the blind, and the happiest duck dog you could ever meet. He lived for early mornings on the water, tail wagging the second he saw the gear come out. Hunting wasn’t just something Drake did; it was who he was. But a few days ago, Drake’s entire world changed. While outside in our own yard, Drake was suddenly attacked by three loose dogs. He never fought back—he’s gentle and steady to his core. By the time we reached him, he had already suffered severe injuries, including a torn ligament and muscle in his hind leg. The vet told us the words no hunter ever wants to hear: Drake will never be able to hunt again. The damage to his back and hind leg is permanent, and his working days are over.

Right now, our focus is simply saving his life and keeping him comfortable. Drake needs a tarsal arthrodesis surgery to add a plate and repair the damage. The only surgeon who can perform this specialized procedure is out of New Orleans, and the cost is far more than our family can shoulder alone. Despite everything he’s endured, Drake still looks at us with those same soft, trusting eyes—like he believes everything will be okay. We’re trying our hardest to make sure it is.

Drake has served so many in the hunting community with every retrieve, every wag of his tail, and every moment of loyalty. If you’re able, please help us give Drake the chance to heal. Even the smallest donation means the world to us. Sharing his story helps just as much. Now we’re trying to be there for him. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.
