Help Drake Beat Cancer
Drakes an extremely healthy, athletic, and health conscious man but on June 1st, 2021 our families lives changed forever. After 6 months of going from doctor to doctor and being sent home with wrong medical interpretations we met with a new Doctor, Dr. Karsha Yang. She got him an emergency ultrasound that Drake really needed. There they found something big and abnormal, we knew something was wrong when the sonographer called in the Doctor (it was after hours.) We had to wait a few days for the test results and when they got back they said there was a large cancerous mass in his bladder.
They wanted to start immediately to figure out what’s going on and he got a biopsy in three different places to figure out where the cancer is originating and what type it is. Results came back saying that he had a rare genetic cell cancer also known as known as squamous cell cancer. The cancer is attached to his bladder. Over the previous six months it grew to the size of a basketball. They wanted to start chemo right away on the island of Kauai but, the first day of chemotherapy treatment he had to be medevac to the island of Oahu for Acute Renal Failure and needed more advanced care as he had to get two nephrostomy tubes drilled into his kidneys. He’s been on Oahu staying at the hospital since June 24, 2021.
Since then, he has done two rounds of chemo and although his body is responding well, the mass is not shrinking as much as the doctors have anticipated. The second round of chemotherapy the mass didn’t shrink and are now looking at other options. The medical team needs us to go to Washington for even better care and for the surgery to remove the mass.
While Drake has been on Oahu, I sold everything that we have worked so hard for, many things and dreams we have built together for the last seven years. This is all necessary so we can move to Washington and he can receive the best possible care. You can be a part of this journey to help us beat this cancer. Please help us secure the funds needed for the medical care, relocating, and to start a new life.
Thank you for taking the time for reading this and for the support. Any amount is greatly appreciated. He is only 29 years old and we have our whole lives ahead of us.
