Help Brett Recover From Cancer and Escape Homelessness with Dignity
Brett is 34. He’s autistic. He’s immunocompromised. And he’s fighting non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma while while currently living in a rental van, frozen food stamps, and the total loss of support.
He needs around $800 a week to cover his van rental, fuel, parking, food and basics.
He's done everything possible through the state, but his state-appointed housing officer resigned without notice and he is now homeless with no support available.
Brett has Applied. Appealed. Escalated.
But every program they've tried has been frozen, capped, or exhausted.
Why Wasn’t He Approved for More Help?
1. Housing Support Expired by Rule
Brett’s HRSN housing benefit is considered a “once-in-a-lifetime” Medicaid service.
Even though his cancer is active... even though he’s immunocompromised and disabled... the system simply won’t allow re-enrollment.
2. Federal Waiver Freeze
Due to housing waiver freezes from the current administration, many Medicaid-funded housing programs remain unavailable or underfunded, especially in Oregon.
Even in life-threatening cases, no new housing slots are available.
3. Food Benefits Frozen by Shutdown
Brett’s SNAP (EBT) case is frozen due to the current federal budget standoff and shutdown processing delays — despite an active case and ongoing eligibility.
❌ What That Leaves Brett With:
- No housing
- No food
- No transportation
- No medical buffer
- No family safety net
- While still in cancer recovery
- While still trying to start a business to survive
♂️ Who Brett Is
Brett is intelligent, resourceful, and determined.
He’s been working tirelessly to launch an online consulting business service — something he could run despite health challenges.
He’s kept going when most people would’ve collapsed.
Now, with winter closing in, he’s in a really challenging situation.
We’re asking the community to step in — because the system won’t.
Why This Is Urgent
This isn’t just a housing issue.
It’s a survival issue.
Eviction is traumatic for anyone —
but for someone fighting cancer, neurodivergent, and immunocompromised?
It’s potentially fatal.
Brett is living in a rental van,
No safe shelter access.
No way to survive nights in the cold.
No food in his fridge.
And no support systems left.
This campaign is a last line of defense before this becomes a tragedy.

❤️ Why This Matters
Brett didn’t “fall through the cracks.”
The cracks became canyons — and no one came.
He did everything right.
He worked. Applied. Built. Kept going.
And now, he’s being punished for still being sick and still needing help.
If the system won’t show up for him, we have to.
