This is one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to write. Draco isn’t “just a dog” — he’s my son, my best friend, and truly my soul dog. He is the light of my life. He comes to work with me every day and grew up traveling to softball tournaments all over Florida. Anyone who meets him instantly falls in love with his quirky, funny, incredibly smart personality. He has a way of making everyone smile.
We’ve had Draco since he was just 8 weeks old, and he recently celebrated his 3rd birthday. Unfortunately, due to poor breeding, serious medical issues began showing very early in his life. At only 6 months old, Draco suffered his first urethral prolapse, which required emergency surgery — something we never could have anticipated. Within days, he needed a second surgery to repair the first. Since then, he has endured two additional prolapses and ultimately had to be neutered, ending any hope of someday carrying on his incredible personality through puppies.
Most recently, Draco underwent TPLO surgery to repair a torn CCL in his rear leg. This surgery alone cost the equivalent of two down payments on new cars, but we did whatever it took to help him walk and live comfortably again.
During his recovery, we received devastating news: Draco has Level 1 laryngeal collapse and now urgently needs BOAS surgery to help him breathe properly. Without it, his condition will worsen and significantly affect his quality of life. The estimated cost for this surgery is just over $6,000, on top of everything we’ve already been through.
We didn’t have pet insurance, and these medical issues came one after another without warning. Asking for help does not come easily to me, but we are emotionally and financially stretched, and we simply cannot do this alone. Draco means everything to our family, and the thought of losing him is unbearable. Our home — our hearts — would have a massive hole without him.
Any donation, share, or kind word truly means more than we can express. Thank you for taking the time to read Draco’s story and for helping us give our boy the chance to breathe easier and live the happy life he deserves.
With so much gratitude,
❤️ Draco’s family
