Dear Everyone,
My name is Dr. Taher AlMadhoun, and I am a 30-year-old general physician from Gaza, Palestine. As a genocide survivor, I am telling my story with the hope that someone, somewhere, will extend a helping hand during these darkest moments.
I have spent the last four years or so working in Gaza's clinics and hospitals. Since 2020, I have been employed as a physician in the intensive care unit at the Indonesian Hospital in northern Gaza.
I am married to Dr. Malak AlMadhoun who is a dentist working at a dental clinic. We started our life together and we have a beautiful baby boy named Abdelrahim.
As a happy little family, we lived our lives. Then, suddenly, a catastrophic war broke out.
Horrific bombardment and explosions, and the sound of collapsing buildings, this tragic war had befallen us.
I was still working at the Indonesian hospital as an intensive care physician at that time, where I witnessed the genocide.
A massacre occurred, with many innocent civilians killed and injured, including children, women, and the elderly.
Following several nights of heavy bombardment of our neighborhood, we had to evacuate and abandon our home in north Gaza, flee to the south to Khan Younis, and take refuge in residential refugee camps.
In Khan Younis for several months, we were under fire and bombardments, and there was no safe place.
We haven't had electricity or fuel, and we've struggled to secure necessities like access to food and water.
Unfortunately, we have sometimes had to consume non-drinking water, which has caused severe gastroenteritis and other health problems.
Abood, my lone child, turned one year old.
When the war began, he was only three months old, therefore he didn't have a normal early life.
He couldn't get access to the same healthcare that every child in the world would have, including access to good nutrition, milk, diapers, and immunizations.
He couldn't get vaccinated according to schedule because of the city's invasion, which made him susceptible to infectious illnesses in this contaminated environment.
Despite the inhumane conditions that my family and I were experiencing during this displacement, I dedicated myself to saving lives at Nasser Medical Hospital, where I saw thousands of injured people and hundreds of innocent women and children die.
After the army forces invaded Khan Yunis, my wife, son, and I were forced to flee on foot to save our lives.
We walked for around three kilometers and five hours, carrying what we could carry of our belongings, under bombardment and through firefights.
Thanks to God, we were able to reach Khan Yunis beach, and from there we headed to Rafah, displaced again.
The war destroyed our lives in Gaza, our whole neighborhood was bombed and destroyed, our home, our jobs, our goals, and our hopes—everything was destroyed, we are in a state of shock and exhaustion, and Gaza has become a graveyard.
My family and I are suffering, and I fear for our future.
My dream of completing my specialization has been put on hold due to the devastating war that has ravaged Gaza.
We live in completely horrible conditions, with no consistent income and no shelter or a place to stay.
For the sake of our son and our family, we ask all kind people to help us leave the most dangerous place in the world, start a new life, and continue our medical specialty training. The circumstances, dangers, and hardships are unimaginable, and time is extremely sensitive, which means it can cause serious health problems and cost lives.
Here is the breakdown of the money:
- Evacuation fees are approximately 5000–10,000 USD per adult person and 2500 USD for children. (according to the registration agency and waiting time).
- Rent and living needs such as food, clothing, and educational courses in Egypt: which is approximately 800 USD per month for at least 12 months.
- Visa application, flight tickets, and bank account to Germany to complete our specialty training as we lost our work in Gaza ~ 12000 USD * 2.
- Fees for money transfers.
- Fees for GoFundMe = 2.9% + 0.3$ for each donation.
We ask you to help us in this noble cause so that my family and I can survive this genocidal war in Gaza.
Please consider donating. Every little bit counts! If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing this with your family and friends. We will be forever grateful.
