Hi there, my name is Ali Rosenthal and I am a patient of the wonderful Dr. Sonbol Moini at her beloved Balance Accupuncture practice in Los Feliz. I am raising money, on behalf of Dr. Sonbol, to help with the extreme flooding damage caused to her home by this month’s storms.

On March 15th, 2023, a significant rainstorm caused Dr. Sonbol’s home in Ventura county to flood. Sonbol awoke in the morning after the storm to see a large pool of water in her backyard, and then found that the water had seeped under her sliding door into the house, destroying her floors and rugs in her living room, and further flooding under the door into the bedroom where she was sleeping. The floors of the whole living room and bedroom were covered with an inch of water.

Sonbol called her insurance company and filed a claim on the damage. Then, after a few hours, they sent an insurance adjuster to her home to inspect the flood damage. After the inspection, the company said that they would not cover the damage. When Sonbol asked why, she was told that the reason was because the water had seeped in from the outside, rather than coming from the ceiling of the house.

Sonbol has spoken to a lawyer, who has confirmed that, unfortunately, insurance companies are now often saying that they will not cover damage from groundwater coming in from outside. If Sonbol were to further fight this claim, it would take up to two years, as well as money. The most sensible thing to do to keep her living conditions safe is to pay the repair costs out of pocket now.

The money raised will be used for:

Dr. Sonbol expressed to me hesitation in setting up a Gofundme, because she has never asked for financial help from others in her life, and asking for money makes her very uncomfortable. However, she cannot afford these expenses on her own, and in the meantime, she is living in her damaged house still, which is at risk of dangerous mold and is a threat to her health.

As many of you know, Dr. Sonbol is a true healer in the Los Feliz community, and provides physical and emotional support to many of us. Let us show her how much we appreciate her by helping her to heal and rebuild in this time of need.

All proceeds will go directly to Dr. Sonbol Moini. Dr. Sonbol says that if she receives more money than she needs for the cost of the repairs, she will donate the rest to helping someone else is need.
