Dr. Daniel Éli Penn had a massive intracerebral hemorrhage(stroke) that developed what is said to be a rare complication of a fairly common procedure—transcheter ablation for atrial fibrillation. Against the odds (almost 100% fatal) he lived and has been recovering fairly well. With hard work and focus he has learned to use his left hand again and to walk again after being in awheelchair for nearly a year. He is now hoping to go further in his recovery with the aide of a stem cell infusion and his exceptional therapists! However, stem cells are not yet available in the US. He would like to travel to Mexico for this and hopes to bring his therapists with him, in part to document the treatment and results. He will be working with the same team when they return, every day. We are lucky to have such good therapists right here in Beaufort! In spite of ongoing medical progress, Dr. Penn has faced many challenges related to the retinal injury as a consequence of recurrent thromboembolic assaults on the brain . He hopes to raise enough money to purchase Apple Vision Pro goggles for computing and possibly Meta glasses for internet use. Together these two items will cost about $1800, but they will enable him to provide telemedicine services and other online assistance for his patients. He will retake boards again on November 20th and hopes to subsequently return to his practice of gastroenterology somewhere in the U.S. Àlso as a consequence of his injury and the disability he has had to endure, his wife has been extremely stressed and no longer wants to be married to him, because she has work endlessly to care for him and their four children. He is in need of a good attorney to help him retain at least partial custody of the children. And attorneys, like doctors, are overpaid in this country! A simple 30m consultation is $300!
