Help Dr. Mohamed Restore His Stolen Dream in Gaza

It is challenging to endure constant exposure to traumatic scenes, to witness injuries and loss of life daily, and to feel powerless to prevent the suffering.

Hello everyone …
I’m Dr. Mohamed A. M. AboAbdo, a Palestinian medical doctor from Gaza who’s recently graduated from the Islamic University of Gaza (IUG).
After many days of contemplation and hesitation, I created this page because I need your urgent support!
I am creating this page after realizing that there is no option left, the situation here in Gaza is very dangerous.
I have been working as a volunteer doctor in the Emergency Department and Orthopedic Department for more than 200 days without any interruption.

Volunteer Medical Doctor

My volunteer experience at the hospital taught me many things: it taught me that this conflict is a genocide; it targets everyone in the Gaza Strip, regardless of age or background.
Every day, I witnessed the devastating impact of violence on innocent civilians—children, women, elderly individuals—all struggling to survive amidst the chaos. It showed me the resilience of the human spirit in the face of unimaginable adversity.

Our Destroyed House

On the tenth day of the Gaza-Israel war, our house was destroyed. The devastation left behind is beyond words. Our once peaceful and cherished sanctuary now lies in ruins, a heartbreaking reminder of the relentless conflict that has engulfed our lives. Memories and belongings are scattered amidst the debris, each fragment telling a story of loss and displacement.
The destruction of our home symbolizes the broader tragedy unfolding in Gaza—a community torn apart, families shattered, and dreams shattered. Yet, amid the wreckage, a resilient spirit remains determined to rebuild and reclaim what was lost.

A Life of Displacement

We are now living in a small tent under challenging humanitarian conditions. Displacement has become our reality, disrupting our lives and forcing us to adapt to unimaginable circumstances. The cramped space of the tent offers little privacy or comfort, and necessities like clean water, food, and sanitation are scarce.
Our sense of stability and security has been shattered, replaced by uncertainty and vulnerability. Despite these hardships, we remain resilient, holding onto hope for a better tomorrow and longing for the day when we can return to a life of normalcy and peace.

My Dreams Are on Hold
My dream is to continue my medical education in Malaysia, where I can gain valuable expertise and skills in Orthopedic Surgery or Neurology. The situation in Gaza has highlighted the critical need for specialized medical care due to the ongoing conflict and resulting physical injuries that often lead to disabilities. I have witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by medical professionals in Gaza due to limited resources and infrastructure damage.

My principle as a medical doctor is to provide compassionate and effective care to those in need. However, the current circumstances in Gaza have shown me the urgent necessity for advanced training in orthopedics or neurology to serve my community better. By pursuing my education in Malaysia, I will acquire the necessary knowledge and experience to make a significant impact on the lives of individuals affected by serious injuries and disabilities in Gaza.

Your generous support will enable me to cover:
  • Permits and toll fees: $6000
  • Travel expenses from Gaza to Egypt, one month’s rent: $1500
  • Flight tickets to Malaysia: $1000
  • Equivalency exams: $1400
  • Tuition fees for the Medical Fellowship Program In Malaysia (first year): $6,860
  • Rent and other living cost in Malaysia (first year): $10,000
  • GoFundMe fee: $883

Total: $27,643 = 37,817 CAD

Important Note:
I made the currency in Canadian dollars (CAD) due to GoFundMe's policies which allow withdrawing funds only from some countries (not including my country, Palestine)
Fortunately, I have a friend in Canada (her name is Rola Ashour) who was willing to withdraw money for me.

Final Words ...
Together, we can make a difference and bring hope to those who most need it. Thank you for considering my cause and your support in advancing my journey toward becoming a skilled medical professional dedicated to serving my community.
Your contributions will make a profound difference in my life and in the lives of those I aim to serve.
Let's work together to bring positive change and healing to Gaza and beyond.
