At Summit Veterinary Care, our mission has always been to elevate pet care while supporting our community. Today, we find ourselves asking that same community for help.

Yesterday, on Dr. Johnston’s birthday, her world was turned upside down. Midway through her shift, she received a call that her home was on fire.

Thanks to the swift response of the Fairfax County Fire Department, the fire was brought under control. We are incredibly grateful that Dr. Johnston, her 14-year-old daughter, and her mother are all safe. However, her mother is currently in the hospital undergoing evaluation for smoke inhalation, and heartbreakingly, the family’s lizards did not survive the fire.

The home is now unlivable, and Dr. Johnston and her family are suddenly faced with the overwhelming task of rebuilding.

We are asking for donations to help this wonderful family get back on their feet.

Dr. Johnston has been an invaluable member of the Summit Vet Care team since April, serving as our primary urgent care doctor. She is brilliant, compassionate, and endlessly kind - a steady source of positivity and comfort for both pets and people. She gives so much of herself to this community, and she deserves so much better than this heartbreaking setback.
