Hello, my name is Dr. Zaheeda Hosein, a 29 year old from Trinidad and Tobago. After unsuccessful attempts to be matched into a residency program in the USA, I found myself as a Radiology resident and on the COVID-19 unit in Trinidad and Tobago. I was only one month and a few days into my job when I began to feel extra exhausted and started to have flu like symptoms. 2 negative covid swabs, one-night time fever spike and one syncopal episode later, to my dismay, I was officially diagnosed with Leukemia on December 28th, 2021, which was confirmed with Bone Marrow Biopsy to be Acute Myeloid Leukemia.

I have since sought treatment at The University of Miami Hospitals. I completed the induction therapy successfully and began consolidation therapy on March 8th, 2022. Currently have three more cycles of consolidation therapy and follow-up visits. There is potential to needing a Stem Cell Transplant, after the 4th cycle of chemotherapy.
