Help Dr. Ed Gometz and His Family Battle Leukemia

Donation protected
Edward Gometz is a husband, father, podcast contributor, doctor and friend. He now also needs to add "fighter" to his resume of Good Man Accolades, as the Gometz family received devastating news just a few short weeks ago that Ed is afflicted with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. (Details are below.) As Ed enters what will be a very long, arduous and (to be honest) expensive treatment to combat this disease, we're rallying anyone whose lives have ever been positively affected by Eddie to help support he and his family in the weeks and months ahead that he will be hospitalized and unable to work. All proceeds raised through this site will be used to help cover living expenses, medical bills and family necessities so Ed is better able to focus on what he most needs to focus on: treatment, recovery and getting healthy again so that he can return home to his wife and kids, Gabe and Juliana.

February 26, 2023: Ed's Wife

To bring everyone up to speed—Ed was just diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML), and will begin treatment very soon. This was a very shocking diagnosis, as Ed is feeling *fine*. In December, Ed fell down some icy stairs, and hurt his hip and leg. After many doctor appointments, an MRI was ordered to make sure he didn’t have damage from the fall. That MRI detected some lesions in his bones, which led us down many steps to where we are now. We are waiting on many test results to better understand the genetic and chromosomal sequencing of his AML, which will inform his treatment and his prognosis.

What we do know now: Ed has an amazing care team, and we know we are in good hands. Ed is scheduled to be admitted to the hospital on 3/7 for about 3.5-4 weeks, where he will undergo intensive chemo and then wait for his immune system to come back online. This will be incredibly difficult for Ed, as well as for Juliana, Gabe, and me.

Ed has been admitted and his treatment journey has begun! He has a spacious, amazing corner room with gorgeous views, which won’t feel so spacious after a few days. He won’t start chemo right away—he has a lot of thorough examinations to go through first. He is in a lot of pain right now.

The kids cannot visit, so this will be a long 3.5-4 weeks without him. We’ve already done three rounds of FaceTime tonight, including some homework assistance for Juliana. I will be trying to visit every day I can.

We can’t thank you enough for all of the gifts, help, offers of assistance, kind words, thoughts, prayers, good juju, etc., for our family. This is an incredibly rough road, but it helps to not walk it alone.

xoxo,

S (Ed's Wife)
