Good Day colleagues, friends and ecologists:

Dr. Brian McCarthy recently suffered a life-altering accident while riding his mountain bike, which led to paralysis. We initiated this fundraiser to help offset home modifications that Brian and his wife Dawn will have to complete in order to accommodate Brian’s wheelchair. Primarily, the funds will help with removing a deck and building a wheelchair ramp, and any additional in-home modifications that will allow Brian to carry on daily activities.

Brian has been a professor in biology at Ohio University for 30 years. During his time at OU, Brian has mentored 50 graduate students, championing women and minorities in STEM. Brian has been a member of the Ecological Society of America since 199? and served as the Vegetation Section Vice Chair from 2007 – 2009 and Chair from 2009-2011. He served the society as Program Chair for our 2012 Portland Oregon meeting. Currently, Brian is the Associate Dean for Faculty, Graduate Studies and Research.

Because Brian has given so much to countless students, colleagues, and organizations like ESA, please consider helping the family of Dr. Brian McCarthy in their arduous journey ahead. The deadline will be March 1st with a monetary goal of $20,000.
