This is Douglas and Sandra, with their two children, Edward and Jimena. They live in San Lucas Sacatepéquez, Guatemala. Earlier this year, Douglas and Sandra were in a horrible motorcycle accident, each sustaining multiple severe injuries. It is a miracle that they survived. They received medical help from Faith Medical Missions and are now in a better healing process. Also, in the midst of this process, the whole family received Jesus Christ! I had the opportunity to listen to Douglas share his testimony of the Lord's grace in his life, hearing how he experienced the love and power of God physically for the very first time at his baptism. Douglas still needs another surgery on his knee, as he is unable to walk well and cannot work. He has been a firefighter for most of his life, but after the accident, he cannot meet the physical requirements of his job. However, despite being in pain from his injuries, he sacrificed his time and comfort to work alongside me to serve Christ by helping the same medical team that helped him just months before. Because he is unable to work due to injuries, his family experiences great need. They live on dirt in a metal shack with sparse furniture. Right now, their most urgent need is to move out of this house into a healthier space. Because the whole family converted from Mormonism to Christianity in the midst of this process, they are experiencing persecution from other family members who still follow Mormonism. These family members live in the surrounding houses, causing them many trials. It is an extremely unhealthy living environment. The cost for the family to rent an apartment is only around $350 a month. It is my prayer that they can move into a new house by Christmas!
