Help Doug Wooding Fight Cancer
Donation protected
Doug Wooding, who takes pride in being the “fix it” guy in and around Newport Beach, was diagnosed with multiple myeloma (cancer of the bone marrow) this summer. We expect the road to recovery to be long and costly, and he is in the middle of a prolonged period without income.
At the time of his diagnosis Doug’s oncologist, who specializes in treating and researching this type of cancer, did not mince words – Doug’s case was in an advanced state (“a five-alarm fire”). Nevertheless, it is a very treatable type of cancer and Doug’s doctor is optimistic he will be able to control the cancer and shrink the tumors.
The cancer invaded and damaged several of Doug’s vertebrae, leaving him at risk of paralysis. Within a few weeks of chemo treatments, Doug saw an orthopedist and underwent emergency surgery to stabilize his spine. The two-month recovery from the spine surgery was painful and involved wearing a full body and neck brace for a while, but Doug was the best of patients and maintained a positive attitude. A staph infection required a second surgery and put chemo treatments on pause for weeks.
Despite these setbacks, Doug is now back on normal chemo cycles, with many months to go. Although he can drive, he is not able to go back to work or lift objects that are heavier than five pounds, taking him away from the work that he really loves – helping people fix and solve problems.
So many of you have reached out and asked how to help, and for this we cannot begin to express our sincere gratitude. For this reason, please know that contributing to this fund will be extremely helpful to meet medical and living expenses that have accrued from the beginning and continue to grow. More importantly, your help will provide peace of the mind for Doug to focus 100% of his available energy on getting healthy, overcoming this horrible disease, and remaining a strong presence for his two sons.
