Help Doug Regain Mobility
Donation protected
Thank you SO very much to everyone who helped make this happen. We finally found a vehicle that meets all of Doug and Pat's needs within the budget. We feel so very blessed that we were able to do this for them!
Doug and Pat R. are two of the most loving, generous people I know. They have been actively involved in their church and community for years and will go out of their way to help anyone who needs it, but they have trouble asking for help themselves. Because of this, my family and I have decided to make this GoFundMe for them, in the hopes of surprising them with a new vehicle, something that they really need right now.
Over the years, Doug has struggled with several health conditions, including asthma and Myasthenia Gravis, a neuromuscular disorder affecting movement, as well as a heart valve surgery and knee replacements. You would never know it by talking with him! Doug finds the bright side in all of these challenges and considers himself lucky that he is able to share his blessings with others, but all of these health problems still come with challenges. To make some of these challenges a bit easier, Doug and Pat bought a mobility scooter last Summer so that Doug could spend more time outside of the house without risk of hurting himself by walking.
Their current vehicle, a 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan, can't accommodate this mobility scooter and can be difficult for Doug to enter and exit. Last year, he fell and broke his ankle getting into the van. It also has several other issues with the engine and body alike, which my brother details in the video below.
You can see why my family is worried for Doug and Pat's safety and wellbeing in this vehicle. With the generosity of friends, family, and neighbors, we are hoping that we can give them a reliable method of transportation that can accommodate Doug's health problems safely. We would all love to see him going out more, with reliable transportation and a way to bring his scooter, so that he can easily get out of the car and go wherever he would like to.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read about our cause, and thank you for your generosity.
