Help Doug Malo fight Hepatic Encephalopathy

Hi, my name is Karen Ballingall.

Since childhood, I have been friends with Angela; her husband Doug Malo has had non-alcoholic Cirrhosis of the liver for many years, which has developed into Hepatic Encephalopathy. Hepatic Encephalopathy is a nervous system disorder brought on by severe liver disease, causing toxins to build up in the blood, which can travel to the brain and affect brain function. Doug has been hospitalized since February and needs a liver transplant.

Doug has been unable to work since he is hospitalized, and it is uncertain when he will be able to return, if ever. Currently, he is in Brandon General Hospital but will, in all likelihood, end up in Toronto or Edmonton for a liver transplant and recovery. Angela cannot work as she is his essential care provider requiring her to be at the hospital upwards of 7-9 hours daily.
