My name is Doug Reiter, I'm 67 and live in Cape Coral, Florida.
I am reaching out to you because I need your help. I never expected to find myself a month after my 66th Birthday being diagnosed with advanced metastasized Prostate Cancer. They found it late. Its moved from the Prostate to my Bones. I wish this was a bad dream but when I wake up in the morning it's still there.
I live alone and a Cervical spine condition requires stretcher transportation to treatment and Doctor visits, It is not reimbursable.
Getting to this Medical treatment and testing is my only hope in managing my Cancer and having more time.
Local trips average around $275.00 per trip.
I cannot afford this and other related medical expenses like my Injection Co-pays on my income without help. I do not like having to ask for help , because I am used to serving others. I have served for years as a CAP Officer in Air Search and Rescue, Emergency Services , Cadet Services and as a Squadron Cmdr. I also volunteered coordinating various fund raisers for our Nation's Fallen and Wounded Warriors and their families. It was a privilege to do these things.
As man of faith I believe my future now rests in God directing me through good Doctors, and to good people. There are Angels. This I know.
Those with Cancer understand the magnitude of what this disease can do to the patient, the patients loved ones, family and friends.
Whether you survive Cancer or not It is frightening. I want to help others like me so I will make a promise to leave behind a written legacy of my fight with this disease. I have a up hill battle in my case because I am alone and am handicaped with my lack of mobility. But there is always a way to look up , not down. Fight and not quit. Even in serious illness there is a promise of light !
As this period of my life will eventually find it's natural end, by sharing my heart , I hope to bless those of whom can be helped someday by my story.
My goal for help is for the next year as my situation unfolds. Timing is important in managing my Cancer.
Your GoFundMe Donations will go direct to my stretcher transportation costs and some other associated medical expenses.
Prayers Work !!
Update on my progress! Now that we are going into 2023, I am pleased to say my treatments are being effective and my Cancer is showing signs of remission ! My last treatment was the first week of December. I Will continue treatments with more frequent blood tests in 2023 between injections.
As my Cancer journey continues, as of November 2023 my remission was short lived unfortunately. After being hospitalized again in August testing revieled my PSA has risen significantly and the Bone Lesions continue to grow. My treatment team has expanded to 2 other groups and expanding methods to combat this disease has become apparent. My reliance on this fund is still vital, as is continued prayers! As things develop I will update all of you. My mobility has diminished and getting around is much harder now. However Im still in the fight and my morale is strong. In the past few months God has blessed me with real live Angels that are helping me in many ways ! Prayers do work !
All of the generosity shown to me here and Prayers have made the difference.
The help I recieve here is still needed, I wish it wasn't but it is.
Thank You for your generosity and kindness.
God Bless, and be safe ,
Doug
