Help Doug extend time with his grandkids.

Doug has a confirmed diagnosis of incurable small cell cancer in his lungs and Pulmonary Fibrosis from glass dust silicosis and chronic /acute lead poisoning resulting in many hours of chelation therapy joint pain and parkinsonism . He also has had 3 stents placed in his heart. The doctors are estimating that he has 10-12 months. While we know there is not a cure, Doug has a love for his family, friends and an unmatched love for his 6 grandchildren. Doug will undergo treatment to battle the symptoms and control pain so he can spend time with his 6 grandkids and give them a few precious memories.

The cancer specialists are in Sioux Falls, so there is additional costly travel/ hotel involved for the appointments and treatments besides the medical costs and co-payments.

While Doug enjoyed careers with antiques and stained glass restoration, the Pulmonary Fibrosis from glass dust and acute,/chronic lead poisoning is not the first health struggle resulting from that line of work. He also was later hit with a pulmonary embolism a blood clot in his lungs. All taking a toll on his health resulting in being permanently disabled Though looking at him you might think there was nothing wrong thanks to the medication and pain relievers.

Doug became a loving caretaker for the love of his life, his wife, Lori Dumke Underdahl in her battle with pancreatic cancer. Lori lost a horrible battle and gained her angel wings at home a couple of years ago.

Many of us enjoy reading Doug’s Facebook posts about everyday interactions and cherished cute conversations with his grandchildren: Sydney, Drake. Molly, Erisa, Eagan and Little Matteo. Doug is the kind of guy to give someone in need the shirt off his back. He is the guy who always thinks of what little fun thing or moments of joy he can give someone else. ( I remember how he would always think of my dad and would pick up some antique tool or two for him that he might enjoy).

Let’s help Doug to get all the medical treatments and get to the appointments to suppress his symptoms, slow the cancer and focus on loving those 6 kids, his family and friends and give him whatever Quality time we can. After all he has been through these last few years, he has found himself to be too financially strapped to do the things he would like to do.
