Me, my sister (Jessie), and brother (Corbitt) are setting this up for our dad (Doug). Him and our mom are in need of your help as we had found out he has a cancerous tumor in his left lung that will require a surgery to remove it and parts of or the entire lung (won't know until they are in the surgery how much of the lung they will take). They are also at risk of losing their house and not being able to pay for everyday bills as our dad hasn't been able to work and won't be able to return to work until after he has fully recovered.
On August 21st of this year, Doug was at work and passed blood in his stool three times. After the scare of how much blood he had passed, he left work and went straight to the ER. While there, they gave him a CT scan of his abdomen to see what could be the cause. At the time, the mass showed up on the lower half of his lung during the CT scan.
On August 28th, he went to the hospital for a CT scan of his chest to further investigate what the mass that was found was. It was found that the mass was 3.6 centimeters by 4.3 centimeters by 6.1 centimeters in size and was a bleeding carcinoid tumor that had caused the blood in his stool.
On September 16th, he went in for a bronchicial scope with biopsy to see where exactly the tumor was located and biopsy it. Once the surgeon got into the lung, he tried to cut and biopsy it in 6 different places but it was bleeding so bad they could only take part of the mucous coat around the tumor. As a result of the scope, Doug started having severe pain in his chest and this resulted in him taking a leave from work.
On September 21st, he went in for a PET scan to see if the cancer had spread to any other parts of his body. Results of the PET came in on the 25th and showed the tumor had grown a bit bigger but a spot on his scrotum highlighted as well.
On October 8th, he went in for a visit at the University of Michigan to meet with the surgeon to schedule his surgery and talk about how they will be doing the surgery. The soonest opening they had was November 11th and his surgery is scheduled for then unless something else opens.
On October 9th, he had an appointment with his pulmonologist for a follow up visit to go over any questions or concerns he had.
On October 17th, he had an office visit at U of M for his pre-surgery evaluation. Doug had an EKG, chest x-ray, and blood work done. The chest x-ray showed he had a half inch long metallic object in the right side of his neck.
On October 18th, he went into the ER due to severe chest pains and not being able to breathe fully. He had EKG, blood work, chest x-ray, and CT scan because the doctor thought he had a blood clot due to all the symptoms he was having. All the tests came back negative for a blood clot, but found he had pneumonia in his lung trapped behind the tumor. He was admitted into the hospital to help regulate his pain and be on a strong antibiotic to get rid of the pneumonia. Also in his scans, it showed the tumor had grown in size to 5.9 centimeters by 5 centimeters by 9.1 centimeters. He also had an ultrasound on the spot they found on his scrotum and we are still waiting on the results for that.
Alongside his diagnosis, our parents received a letter in the mail last week stating that the property taxes on their house (they are on land contract) haven't been paid since 2012 and $10,500 is owed by the beginning of November or it goes into foreclosure and they are at risk of losing it. It has been their home for 3 years now and we have never seen our parents more happy to have a place that finally feels like HOME. They have never been late or missed a payment to their "landlord." They have also been slowly doing small updates to the house.
Right now, we are doing our best to keep him comfortable and positive until his surgery that is still scheduled for November 11th. We ask that you keep our family in your thoughts and prayers and send all the positive vibes to our dad that you can. Any amount you can donate is greatly appreciated as it helps our parents lift the weight that is weighing on them right now.
