Help Doug Beat Cancer Again

Hi, I'm Matt McCormick. Doug Laxton has been one of my closest friends for over 20 years. It's been two years since his initial colorectal cancer diagnosis, and he's now facing a recurrence. The cancer has spread to his liver, and he's facing another rough battle with an imminent regimen of chemotherapy and surgery on the horizon.

In the time since his diagnosis, he's kept working, kept being a wonderful father to his three beautiful kids and husband to his wife, Krysta, and has been a source of laughter and support for his friends and family. He also completed his bachelor's degree from Concord University.

In short, he's kept living a life that anyone would be proud of for the last two years, despite the hardships, and I hope that you'll show the generosity necessary to help Doug continue on this path as he fights to beat cancer once again.

From Doug:

My battle began on March 4th, 2024, with my initial Colon Cancer diagnosis. Since then, it has been a grueling path: I completed both chemotherapy and radiation treatments before undergoing surgery to successfully remove the tumor. I am still actively working through physical and emotional recovery from those procedures.

On March 4th 2026 I received the news that the Colon Cancer has returned and now it’s in my liver. Exactly 2 years to the date of my original diagnosis.

Starting next week, I begin a rigorous treatment plan: 12 rounds of chemotherapy over the next six months. My medical team and I are ready for the fight, but the logistical and medical hurdles are significant.
The estimated costs for medical co-pays, travel to and from Charleston, and related medical expenses are projected to be between $5,000 and $7,500.

I am setting an initial goal of $5,000 to help cover:
• Out-of-pocket medical expenses and co-pays.
• Fuel and travel costs for 12 treatment cycles.
• Essential medications during the 6-month recovery period.

Any contribution, no matter the size, helps me focus entirely on treatment and recovery rather than the rising costs of care. If you can’t donate, sharing this page is just as meaningful and helpful.
Thank you for standing with me. Thank you for allowing me to fight.
